The Call to Plant

Early in 2015, as Julio was reading Nehemiah chapter 1, even though he had read it before multiple times, God showed him through that passage how desperate the need to rebuild the spiritual wall of the city of Guadalajara was.

“Things are not going well…the wall of Jerusalem has been torn down, and the gates have been destroyed by fire. When I heard this, I sat down and wept. In fact, for days I mourned, fasted, and prayed to the God of heaven.” – Nehemiah 1:3-4

Julio and Carla not only sought counsel and guidance from family members, mentors and from their Senior Pastor and friend Ronnie Floyd, but also began praying and fasting multiple times throughout the decision process; they knew it would take nothing less than God’s voice for them to take this big step of faith and decide to move away from a successful ministry in the U.S., a ministry that had placed Julio on a platform to influence thousands of people every week. It was during a 21-day period of fasting and praying in January 2016 that God gave them several passages from His Word to confirm that calling:

“Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.” – Galatians 5:25

“Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. May your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing.” – Psalm 143:10

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” – Proverbs 16:3

“Only ask, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the whole earth as your possession.” – Psalm 2:8

“With God’s help we will do mighty things…” – Psalm 108:13

Suddenly, faith and the promises of God’s Word became more real to them than they had ever been before. They had no idea what the journey ahead would hold, but there was no doubt in their minds that they serve a faithful God who knows the journey and is more than able to lead them.
